Active Pursuits: Wildlife Watching Frommer

There are numerous locations in Colorado to see animals and birds in the wild, including some that are close to the state's major cities. The South Platte River Greenway near Denver is a good spot to see ducks and other waterfowl, songbirds, deer, and beaver; and the U.S. Air Force Academy grounds in Colorado Springs offer opportunities to see deer, an occasional elk, peregrine falcons, and golden eagles. Other top spots to see wildlife include Durango, Glenwood Springs, Fort Collins, Vail, Rocky Mountain National Park, and Colorado National Monument.
